OPTICAL SIZES
Contralto is distributed in 4 optical sizes.
OPENTYPE
Opentype features let you activate lettershapes variants or display some magic combos. Access to these features depends on the software used.
LIGA: standard ligatures (should be always on) including:
• smart f variants to avoid collisions,
• T T ligature,
• anti-collision T (rightside),
• variants of f and t horizontal bar when next to each other (ff, tt, ft, tf, ttt, fff…)
DLIG: discretionary ligatures.

• (p) to ℗,
• (r) to ®
CALT: contextual alternates: transforms the x letter to the multiply sign × when between two figures and/or an extra space
ZERO: activates slashed-zero alternate
SUPS: superscripts. Activates superscript figures
SUBS: subscripts. Activates subscript figures
NUMR: numerators. Activates numerator figures
DNOM: denominators. Activates denominator figures
FRAC: real fractions from any [number] slash [number] sequence
ORDN: ordinals. Creates ordinal versions for letters a b c d e h i l m n o r s t. If a or o are preceded by a figure and no letter follows, ordfeminine and ordmasculine are displayed.
SS01: stylistic set 01: Alternate a.
SS02: stylistic set 02: Alternate g.
SS03: stylistic set 03: Alternate j.
SS04: stylistic set 04: Alternate y.
SS05: stylistic set 05: Ż to Ƶ Polish variant.
SS06: stylistic set 06 “Arrows”. Transforms: -> to →, <- to ←, --> to ⟶, <-- to ⟵, <-> to ↔, <—> to ⟷, ^- to ↑, -^ to ↓, ^-^ to ↕, /> to ↗, to ↘, <\ to ↖, -- to ⎯ (double hyphen makes a long connector)
SALT: stylistic alternates. This feature is compiled as a fallback for Photoshop. Activates SS01, SS02, SS03, SS04 and SS05 at once.
LOCL: language-based localised forms (see “expert features” paragraph)
LNUM: Lining figures. Displays uppercase-aligned figures and case sensitive glyphs (see “expert features” below)
ONUM: Oldstyle figures. Displays default figures and glyphs.
TNUM: tabular figures. Switches figures and some related glyphs (see “expert features” paragraph) to tabular ones
PNUM: Proportional figures. Reverts to default non-tabular figures.
Tip: in most typesetting software, you’ll probably find the options “Tabular lining”, “Tabular oldstyle”, “Proportional lining” and “Proportional oldstyle”. These are just the combos of the last four features here upon.

• You can play with “horizontallineextension” glyph and connect most of the glyphs in this font. “horizontallineextension” length is same as tabular figures and is case-sensitive too. In Adobe applications, write an hyphen and select it to access its longer variant “horizontallineextension”.
