Guru was designed for body text in Buddhist Publications. It has a generous x-height and economical copy-fit. "Guru" is a Pali word meaning "teacher."
A full range of Latin characters means it can be used for Pali, Sanskrit, Romanised Indic scripts, nearly all European languages, and Vietnamese. A full Extended Greek character set, and a wide range of symbols extend its usefulness to other academic fields such as maths and science. Maths and currency symbols are designed on the figure width, while other symbols, arrows, and geometric shapes are a uniform width and align with the Caps height if the design permits. Superscripts align with the tops of figures, while subscripts bisect the baseline.
The OpenType PetiteCapitals are designed to match the x-height, while SmallCapitals are about 80% of the Caps Height. Contextual Ligatures substitute text with diacritics for text typed using the Velthuis system for Pali and Sanskrit. The Fractions feature composes standard fractions from any digits or lowercase a-z, while the Alternative Fractions feature substitutes stacking fractions for standard fractions from 1/2 to 63/64ths. The Ordinals feature superscripts letters only after digits.

None of this would have been possible without FontCreator from High-Logic. This excellent Truetype Font Editor made the task of editing these large fonts relatively easy. |
