Yerevan magazine is an Armenian periodical published in English and Russian since 2005, and in Armenian language since this summer. The art directors Gegham Vardanyan, Arsen Kirakosyan and their team chose to use our upcoming typeface Arek by Khajag Apelian for the design and supported its development. Vardanyan says:

The Armenian typography has old history but it's still too young compared to Latin computer fonts. There is not enough fonts for making layouts, and we are always looking for something interesting and new. So when I've accidentally found Arek it was a good luck for us.

The family with all its weights is used extensively for the magazine headlines and text. Also, both variants, the upright as well as the cursive Armenian, are used. Arek is the first font which combines these two together in a sensitive and typographically valid way, therefore it is particularly interesting to see how the designers approached this so-far unprecedented option in Armenian typography.
